LOS ANGELES, Mar 21, 2006/ FW/ --- Octavio Carlin presented Greek goddesses and the 1960’s for his Fall 2006 collection and marks the debut of his namesake label after spending the last four years designing, NAQADA, which he continues to own.
Octavio decided to let go of the design responsibilities of NAQADA last October before he presented his last runway show to focus on his passion for eveningwear. NAQADA will now be designed by NAQADA MEN designer, Donny Barrios. Octavio Carlin wanted to concentrate more on what he loves to do, which are gowns and dresses, according to a press release handed at the show.
Starting the show with a very 1960’s theme music, To Sir With Love, he sent out his first model in a white silk georgette short swing dress that started the tone for the 26 other pieces shown through out the program.
Showing very feminine and sexy silhouettes, Octavio follows the widely seen trend of the balloon or bubble hemlines, only he did a great job showing them with pleats instead of the regular gathered look in his cocoon dress and gown.
Using soft luxe fabrics of silk georgette, eyelet ultra-suede with chiffon, silk charmeuse with chiffon & lace. With a color palette in black, white, midnight blue, yellow, gold, olive, leopard print and a play of floral print with accordion style pleat.
His lace overlay, layered pleats, and embroidery, allowing the straps to bind the piece while it flows endlessly to floor length, box pleat and bow, demonstrated fine detailing.
Octavio Carlin showed his mastery with his fine tailoring attaining that clean and fluid line to enhance the female physique giving his goddesses that grand statuesque look.
He then ended the show as he started it, with an olive silk chiffon long swing dress with a bow accent on the back with the ribbon that hangs to the floor as if to represent a train.
Carlin, whose work on Naqada has always been excellent, yet, the launch of his eponymous label, the Los Angeles-based designer showed his true calling, i.e. designing covetable eveningwear!
