BDG: Equality of the Sexes
New Clothing Line Is Gender Bending
New York Fashion Week Spring 2004
NEW YORK, Sep 10, 2003/ FW/ --- Equality of the sexes is being taken to the literal sense
in fashion.
Designer Christiun Urquijo has seen the deterioration of the separation of sexes long ago and
based his clothing line, Bodygear, on androgynous designs that effuses eroticism and
sensuality.
Being of Latin descent, celebrating one’s sexuality is not new to Christiun Urquijo.
Having grown up in a culture where fashion was a woman’s seduction, Christiun, who was born in
Cali, Colombia, came to the states to further develop his artistic and innovative approach to
fashion by studying architecture, fine art, dance, theater and fashion.
By incorporating all of these elements, he creates clothes that are fluid and move with the body.
Each carefully constructed piece is made to enhance a body’s natural assets.
With Bodygear, Christiun seeks to accommodate a woman’s perpetual need to
express herself through clothing and to motivate men to feel free and confident
enough with their own gender to do the same.
To this effect, Bodygear’s new and inventive textiles push the envelope in fashion design
to create new looks that have never been viewed before.
The clothing accentuates sexuality without crossing the line of decency.
Bodygear Activewear by Christiun Urquijo debuts at New York Fashion Week on
Saturday, September 13th at 12 noon at Bryant Park.
