DALLAS, Jan 23, 2005/ FW/ --- Labels, today’s world is full of labels, from the FDA to the FCC, and all the other government regulatory bodies that require manufacturers to put barcodes and stickers on every goods sold. What happens if the label becomes the fashion “Label?”

The fashion industry has always found it difficult to put a LABEL on fashion designer Laura Whitcomb even though she has made a name for herself by stamping others design logos onto her own line of sportswear.

She takes established pop culture icons and spoofs them with a sexy twist. The past targets of her sartorial satire include the Playboy bunny, 007, UPS and the now famous Adidas dress (made famous by Madonna).

On Wednesday, February 9, 2005, during New York’s Fashion Week, Laura Whitcomb graces the Big Apple’s runways once more, coming back about a 3-year hiatus since September 2001.

Known for her use of pop culture, hip-hop, philosophy, and world events for inspiration, the Fall 2005 collection for LABEL takes a theme of abstract art and its powerful impact on the psyche and its relations to the unconscious set against the subjugated, censored, and medicated milieu of a realized Orwellian prophecy.

The Collection deals with enigmatic language of image and archetype but conveys this through the abstract’s unwritten symbolism. LABEL will take this theme in terms of its language into the clothing with cryptic and textured layers that interplay the techniques of knitwear moralized sculpture and embossed application.

As a clothing line the pieces for men and women created by LABEL relate in foundation to a uniform of the sensibility of its notions. It does not let aesthetic be capsized in a material world but rather continues to make clothes which reflect a product of impactive design which does not disseminate in its essential message yet leaves it to conclude to the wearer on their own terms.

The Fall 2005 show will incorporate the works of seven artists who have reacted to the last increment in our history in a new dialectic.

The artist works will be shown and incorporated into a new medium of language that intends to impact in the commodity of LABEL’S clothing in an international paradoxical way. The end result being an aesthetic that cerebrally reconnects its wearer through an unconscious and almost alchemical process.

The idea of the show will juxtapose the visual momentum of the seeds of change that have demoted our recognition of our own humanity through the medium of superimposed projection.

These visuals are a collective time capsule of world events and daily iconography of the changes of erosion that will be simultaneously projected along with the show.

The artist will also showcase their works as a theatrical troupe will be acting as agents of censorship and propaganda as a reminder to what is our modern reality which is not yet an integrated reality.

This event through audio and visual soundtrack will serve as the launch of a relative art movement and will show a common denominator of fashion as a form of artwork in our culture.

Laura Whitcomb believes that as citizens, its scary to contemplate a future in which relations with those we need to relates to be diplomatic, and not humane. It’s with art, after all, that a culture best expresses its humanity. Like science, art depends on the experiments of others. The great achievements are made not by individuals so much as by environments.

LABEL’S collection for Fall 2005 relates to the theme of art and the present culture that permeates the unconscious. Lower East Side Lounge, Verlaine, will be the location of this highly anticipated Fashion show. Verlaine will also be the location for the after party.
