DALLAS, Aug 11, 2004/ FW/ --- Three prominent Brazilian designers are scheduled to show during the upcoming New York season slated on September 8 – 15, 2004 at Bryant Park. Alexander Herchcovitz, Amir Slama for Rosa Cha and Carlos Miele are becoming Brazil’s hottest exports.
Alexander Herchcovitz who historically shows during Sao Paolo Fashion Week and Paris Prêt-a-Porter decided to forgo the City of Lights this season and go to the Big Apple instead.
Herchcovitz who started his fashion career at the age of 16 and had a cult following in his native Sao Paulo in the early 1990s due to his iconic t-shirt design with a skull pattern, also had the dubious reputation of designing for prostitutes and transvestites early in his career.
But it’s his masterful skills in creating volumes and folds contrasted with a dry contour occasionally lessened with A-lines that would catapult him to the starry spheres of Parisian fashion. His Fall 2004 collection shown at the French capital received rave reviews from fashion journalists who exalter his work with rubber making it look, feel and act like fabric.
So, on Saturday, September 11, 2004, at the Theater in Bryant Park, Alexander Herchcovitz will bring his iconoclastic designs in New York that will surely create a buzz among the fashion crowd.
Amir Slama is a familiar with the New York fashion scene specially after showing his Rosa Cha Spring 2004 collection last September that literally created a pandemonium under tents in Bryant Park.
Known for his sexy, sultry and very revealing swimwear, Amir Slama brings visions of “The Girl From Ipanema” on the runway. Though this might sound like a cliché, his designs are not formulaic. Rather, Amir Slama fuses Brazilian folklore with fantasy, crafting a collection that is rich in texture and imagination.
Rosa Cha by Amir Slama is slated on Friday, September 10, 2004 at the Theater in Bryant Park.
Another very familiar face under the tents of Bryant Park is Carlos Miele who debuted on the 7th on Sixth runways during the Spring 2003 season.
Known for his exuberant design and love for vivid colors, the Sao Paolo-based designer is also famous for his “sexier-than-thou” Lycra creations. He also loves to experiment with non-traditional materials such as recyclable resources like plastic and soft drink bottles made into clothing.
A fan of converging time-honored techniques such as macramé and crochet with high tech fabrics, Carlos Miele creates looks that are not only unique but also very desirable.
Carlos Miele is scheduled to show his Spring 2005 collection on Sunday, September 12, 2004 at the Plaza in Bryant Park.
