NEW YORK, Sep 16, 2004/ FW/ --- Every fashion season, from the point of view of even the most casual observer, it seems that there is a contest among PRs on who can pack their front row the most number of celebrities and top editors. This season, Robyn Brooks and Selda Gulcan (both from Luca Luca) and Scott Cooke of LaForce & Stevens (outside PR for Luca Luca) win the unofficial contest hands down.
Last Sunday in Bryant Park, just getting through the front door of the tents was a chore. Between the paparazzi and onlookers waiting for the celebrities attending the show, it took about 15 minutes to wade through the crowd.
Security, who saw my invitation and acknowledged the press pass that was hanging on my neck, tried to get me in as fast as they could, but it was still chore getting through. Once inside the tents, the situation was the same – photographers waiting on the other side of the door for celebrities.
Thank goodness to the efficiency of both in-house and outside PR for Luca Luca, I did not have to fall in line to get my seat number. They had called ahead for my seat assignment.
And although as always, Luca Orlandi’s staff tries their best to make the check-in as painless as possible, the sheer number of celebrities attending the show made it an organized chaos!
Yes, it sounds like a contradiction in terms, but believe me, if handled by lesser organizational hands, there would have been a stampede. How they pulled an orderly check-in of guests is not a miracle. It was hard work and attention to the minutest details.
Entering the Theater (the biggest venue inside the tents), there were more than enough ushers to handle the guests. My seat was located in the middle section and once again, I had to wade through photographers and video crews, plus journalists trying to get interviews with Jessica Simpson, Mischa Barton, Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, Miss Teen USA, Miss USA, tennis champs Venus and Serena Williams.
Actually, the names I mentioned are the only ones I actually saw! There were more celebrities around, but I did not see them because there was a crowd of photographers and journalists in front of them.
Though I wanted to do a few interviews, I decided against it. I would just add to the chaos, organized it might be.
Yet, in my eyes, the best thing about the Luca Luca show, once the crowd had cleared, the plastic on the runway taken off, and the lights began to dim, everyone were in their proper place (all seats were taken and standing room only was also full), Luca Orlandi showed one of the best collections for the season.
