Six Young Designers Get A Leg Up From Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation
New York Fashion Week Fall 2006

NEW YORK, Jan 5, 2006/ FW/ --- Brian Reyes, Hanuk, Rodarte, Vena Cava, VPL and Rag & Bone are the 2006 winners of the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation (EDFF) awards.

Receiving $25,000 grants each, the emerging designers get a chance to showcase their collections during the Fall 2006 New York fashion season.

  • Brian Reyes focuses on creating wearable, versatile pieces that would appeal to mother and daughter alike. Reyes believes there is room in a young woman's closet for elegant American wear.
  • Hanuk is inspired by his personal cultural diversity, cultivated at an early age when his family moved from Korea to the United States. His designs are both artisan-like and functional in feeling.
  • Rodarte is the design team of sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, who create garments that are minimal and extravagant, rough and refined, intellectual and effortless.
  • VPL (Visible Panty Line) was founded by Victoria Bartlett in 2003. VPL designs allow what was formerly under the surface to become an apparent and integral part of the overall wardrobe.
  • Vena Cava was created by design duo Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai. They seek to design simple, elegant, and wearable clothing with original and hand worked detail.
  • Rag & Bone was founded by three young men from London: Marcus Wainwright, Nathan Bogle and David Neville. They create classic, beautifully constructed, luxury basics and sportswear.
  • This year's winners of the women's design category were selected by a distinguished committee of fashion insiders including Marylou Luther; Sally Singer, Fashion News/Features Director at Vogue Magazine; Kim Hastreiter, Editor-in-Chief & Publisher of Paper Magazine; Julie Gilhart, Vice President of Fashion Merchandising at Barneys; and Ruth Finley, Publisher of The Fashion Calendar. The men's category committee included Madeline Weeks, Fashion Director for GQ Magazine and Jay Bell, Buyer for Menswear Design at Barneys New York.
