illustration PARIS, Aug 24, 2005/ FW/ --- New York, here we come! What is it that gets us so thrilled to attend the New York Fashion Week? First, believe it or not, in Paris, when you are working at a Fashion House, you do not get to see many live fashion shows.

The rivalry between fashion designers nearly always wins over the fraternity, although it is part of the founding values of the French Republic (liberty, equality, fraternity) and we are thus very happy to see the work of other designers (some completely unknown to us, some not), nowhere less than at their fashion shows and live!

Then, I must admit that, like many people throughout the world, we truly love New York, the vibe of the City, the freedom of thought that runs in the New Yorkers’ blood and that is translated in the way they dress, eat, party and live.

And last but not least, because, although I have had many adventures linked to the fashion world, working as a PR and manager for supermodel Laetitia Casta, I have never attended the shows at the Tents or at the other locations.

As Frenchmen, we have this maybe very chauvinistic idea that Paris is ‘The Fashion Place’ in the world for real innovation, then that Milan comes first maybe for quality producing, and that New York is best for knowledge of customers’ expectations, wearability and marketing.

Julien and I are going to this event to learn something from Fashion Houses based in New York and would love to see that the cliché preconceptions about New York fashion be proven wrong, i.e., the lack of creativity and being too commercial.

So, for Julien, he expects to be pleasantly surprised to see new visions for women’s clothing.

As far as my own expectations are concerned, I guess I’ll above all observe how buyers, journalists, designers relate, talk to each other, how showrooms are organized, fashion shows staged, invitations sent, celebrities invited, parties held … the things that make American fashion so powerful in the eyes of the many people throughout the world – organization!

All of this packed in the excitement of being in the world’s most vibrant city at a very essential time of year with the privilege of attending this Fashion Week from a much-coveted place. We can’t wait until it all begins!
