By: Heide Winkenwerder
NEW YORK, Sep 13, 2005 / FW/ – As promised in her press notes, ‘My collection is about the magical effect that the Sun and the Sea have on the eye of its beholder. I have taken women on a wonderful voyage from the South of France, down the coast of Italy and docking in the Greek Isles. The silhouettes are sensual and very modern in feel, with a dash of glamour.’
Taking us on this voyage with years of experience behind her, Joanna Mastroianni offers luxury, elegance and sexy that all translates to glamour in the end.
Showing 37 pieces that highlights the silhouette of a woman’s every curve and peeking the curiosity of the on-lookers, Mastroianni chose luxe fabrics such us a French lace, cotton pique silk crepe, chartreuse silk charmeuse, organza, tulle, and silk chiffon just to name a few.
Using palettes of mainly white but adding vibrant colors of yellow, turquoise, gold, violet, coral, your basic black and a hand painted coral on silk chiffon are all inviting with the fine tailoring and mastery of Joanna Mastroianni.
Making it quite a difficult task to pick a favorite, standouts included the white French lace blouson over white cotton pique shorts, white embroidered jacket, white box blouse and yellow sash over white floral matte lisee pencil skirt, white organza square cut-out trench, chiffon vest with mother of pearl beading, golden Artemis goddess dress with
embroidered trim, and the yellow embroidered chiffon cowl back gown.
Not forgetting to take note of the fine detailing by way of embroidery, square cut-out on organza that was delicate as can be, various types of pearl beading/embroidery, twisted straps that extends all the way down a low cut back, hand beading, beaded belt, and a hand beaded floral bag.
