NEW YORK, Sep 19, 2005/ FW/ --- Picture the Lord of the Rings set in 2215, Liv Tyler's character Arwen Evenstar dressed in all her angelic glory. Morgane Le Fay attempted to marry the two ethereal worlds in her spring/summer 2006 collection.
But her romanticized future was not conveyed with garish metal adornment or odd geometric silhouettes. Le Fay's clothing possessed a charm best described as beautiful melancholy, a sensation frequently waxed nostalgic about or imagined in an era yet to come, bet very rarely found in the present.
With Bjork's "Venus as a Boy" painting the perfect aural landscape, Le Fay's vision of purity unveiled in a color palette of mostly black and white.
A gorgeous snow-white empire waist dress with long sleeves and a round neck moved lightly along the runway while a more savvy short lapel jacket and full wrap skirt added a breezy feel to stuffy business wear.
A chiffon apron dress with an open back and tie closures was awkwardly finished with a short jacket and wool cropped pants. The contrasting elements proved a bit jarring and possibly a tad too futuristic for contemporary tastes.
Subtle additions of color were presented in a deceptively intricate tropical print that added wispiness to the light wool material.
Two particularly stunning evening gowns in scarlet red were quite seductive with a hint of restraint. The stand out piece was a full feather skirt, complemented by a simple tank top that left the entire audience in awe. The fullness of the feathers' provided a fresh twist to the billowing skirts currently dominating the runways.
Le Fay's minimalist approach begs not be tampered with by over-styling or over-accessorizing. The only adornment required by Le Fay is a sense of inner serenity possessed by the wearer. Oh, and maybe flat, metallic clothe boots inspired by the Uggs of the future!
