Fiandaca NEW YORK, Sep 8, 2006/ FW/ --- Loveable squaws and cowgirls, ‘mail order’ brides and saloon girls in the Wild West are Alfred Fiandaca’s inspiration for Spring 2007, bringing center stage once again the romance of the American west.

And, though it can be said that it had been done before, Alfred Fiandaca’s take is different. While other designers have taken the path of least resistance, i.e., created pieces for the twenty-somethings, which by the way, is who the fashion trends usually cater to, Fiandaca’s target market is the baby boomer generation.

As a baby boomer socialite told FW once, “I love attending the New York season, but except for a very few designers, everything I see on the runway are for my daughters.”

Well, with Alfred Fiandaca, baby boomer fashionistas just found a designer who caters to their fashion needs. All 51 exits presented today at the Bryant Park Grill consider the less fashion-forward approach to dressing of the 40-60 generation, yet everything is chic and contemporary.

Beginning with the white shift dress with hand stitched detail and a sand fringe jacket as an accessory, both done in double face wool crepe, to the white satin organza wrap jacket and stretch charmeuse pants with bead fringe, Alfred Fiandaca dressed his ladies from day to night, and everything in between.

And, on a very ‘Dallas’ movie, as in the ‘Ewings’ of the popular 1980s nighttime soap, the models were all wearing big hair! Perhaps, Fiandaca figured that his target market knew the Ewings very well. Maybe, its because ‘Dallas’ the movie is already in pre-production with none other than John Travolta, a baby boomer icon himself starring as JR Ewing, is in the news lately.

The inspiration for the collection might be 19th century America, but with the big hair added, it became a modern take on the era. Now, before you say, ‘Big hair is so last season!’ please think again.

Big hair has never gone out of style in the American southwest and of course Texas and Oklahoma.

Fiandaca’s coup de grace was the final exits – a feather Native American headdress that reaches to the floor. It was beautiful, dramatic and prompted to audience to a spontaneous applause.
