DALLAS, Feb 22, 2004/ FW/ --- You’re all packed and ready to go to the shows. The little black dresses have been folded carefully or rolled for the least creases. And, now you are thinking of what jewelry to bring as accessories to all those black outfits.
Wearing jewelry at the fashion shows is not a must, though most of the women usually wear a few pieces enough to be noticed, but not looking like a Christmas tree.
Earrings, a necklace and a ring are usual choices. Brooches are welcome too plus an occasional hairpiece.
The goal is understated elegance, not the posh at the red carpet. In short, wearing jewelry at the fashion shows are never overdone, nor ostentatious. It is just to add a little sparkle.
Since the fashion front during the season move from city to city, traveling with jewelry is a constant concern.
According to the Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company, someone can travel with jewelry safely by just following a few simple rules.
First, carefully consider your planned activities and select your jewelry to match. In short, if you are not going to use it, don’t bring it.
Are you just attending the shows or do you have invitations to formal parties where wearing a gown is expected?
If you don’t have an appropriate place to wear your more expensive jewelry during the trip, consider leaving it at home.
Never place your jewelry in a checked back. Wear it or put it in your hand carry items when you’re en route.
Don't hide your jewelry in your hotel room or leave it unattended and unprotected. When you're not wearing your jewelry, place it in an in-room safe or hotel safe.
Don't remove your jewelry in a public place. It's best to leave it on all the time, even when washing your hands in a public restroom.
If you venture into a crowd or area that feels less than safe, slip your pendant inside your shirt and turn your engagement ring so the diamond doesn't attract unwanted attention.
Before you leave, make certain your jewelry is properly insured, and you have an appraisal or insurance evaluation in your home records. Consider a policy that covers theft, accidental loss, and mysterious disappearance
