PARIS, Mar 4, 2005/ FW/ --- A pie on the face is a known tactic by PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals), but the pie throwing incident that happened early today, right before the Chanel show was not the organization’s doing.
In this season where fur is one of the main fares of many collections, one would expect that PETA would be active. Such was the case in New York when the non-for-profit organization held a peaceful demonstration in Bryant Park with Dennis Rodman as the spokesperson, protesting the use of fur.
The pie throwing and paint splashing were pre-September 11 strategies by PETA, but after that fateful day, they have changed these terrorist tactics opting for more pacifist solutions.
But, people still remember that. So, today, when a top editor of a famous U.S. magazine literally got pie on the face, the first suspect was PETA.
Eyewitness reports said that a woman holding a shopping bag, who was part of the big crowd going into the show at the Louvre got near the renowned fashion journalist, managed to use course language before hitting the target directly on the face, leaving the scene of the crime undetected and at ease, passing by security without being questioned and the identity unknown, except to the victim.
With so many witnesses, the rumours spread quicker than a brushfire, and like what was said earlier PETA was quickly blamed. But as the day went on, another rumour surfaced, saying that it was a personal vendetta against the victim due to the use of course language which was actually very personal and not politically motivated.
Whatever the reason behind the incident was, the pie throwing was considered a break from discussing hemlines and godets by the international press.
