PARIS, Oct 5, 2004/ FW/ --- Eva Herzigova is better known as a model than as a fashion designer but that will change soon as Czech supermodel unveiled her first clothing collection today.
The 31-year old supermodel joins the ranks of Alek Wek, who designs her own handbag line, Cindy Crawford who designs a baby line and Kristy Turlington who designs a yoga line of clothes.
In an industry where youth is placed on a high premium, models find themselves changing lanes while remaining on the same fashion highway that they have traversed through the year of their stardom.
Though 31 is far from being old, in the modeling world, where the stars can be as young as 15 or 16, reaching the big 30 is scary, even frightful.
But not to enterprising models like Eva Herzigova, Alek Wek, Cindy Crawford and Kristy Turlington who used their knowledge of fashion to start a new career.
Some, like Heidi Klum and Tyra Banks have chosen television, becoming hosts of TV shows that deal with fashion. Heidi Klum is the host of the upcoming reality show by Bravo, “Project Runway,” wherein 12 design hopefuls will compete for the ultimate prize of showing their collection during New York Fashion Week Fall 2005 season, while Tyra Banks is the producer and host of UPN’s “America’s Next Top Model,” a reality show about modeling.
So, there is life after the runway as these beautiful models have proven. And truly, they should be commended for their enterprising spirits!
