PARIS, Oct 9, 2004/ FW/ --- My October in Paris is spent sitting at catwalk shows watching some of the most beautiful in the world walk the runway and among the audience. And on the 9th day of the 10th month, I remembered that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month back home.
It saddened me to think that some of these women will be afflicted with this debilitating disease. According to the American Cancer Society estimates, t here will be 215,990 new cases of invasive breast cancer in women in the United States, and 1,450 in men for 2004. An estimated 40,110 women and 470 men will die from the disease.
Not very good thoughts, I agree, especially during the height of the fashion season and here in Paris, the center of the fashion universe, everything culminates.
In the bosom of the industry that I love and live in, everyone is pitching in to help fight breast cancer.
New York-based designer Rebecca Taylor has created specially boxed hosiery set, sold exclusively at her boutique in Nolita.
The hosiery set is packaged in Rebecca Taylor’s signature pink boxes and retails for $25. It contains one pair of flower jacquard vine hosiery and one pair of micro-denier hosiery in assorted colors. Rebecca Taylor is donating a portion of the proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
The Rebecca Taylor boutique is located on 260 Mott Street between Houston and Prince Streets.
DKNY, a fashion line by Donna Karan created the Helenca Lace camisole and low rise panties that blur the distinction between sweet and sexy, ingénue and serene. Retailing at $39 and $18, respectively, portion of the proceeds will go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
This unique DKNY underwear will be available at select stores nationwide in the U.S. during October. For store locations, please call 1-800-231-0884.
