Paris Haute Couture Spring 2005

PARIS, Jan 24, 2005/ FW/ --- I arrived a little late at the doors of the Hotel Intercontinental’s Imperial Salon, the venue for the Stephane Saunier show.
I almost did not get in because of the masses of people being present to attend this, which was Saunier’s first appearance on the official calendar. Fortunately, the press attaché had one of the ushers discreetly escort me along with two clients through another door.
Other than that, the first day of the shows had its usual suspects. To no surprise the front rows were packed with fake blonds, botoxed faces, and tragically done facelifts.
Now invoking both heaven and hell, I fall upon a most appropriate saying: GREAT BALLS OF FIRE!
Do these over 50 years of age women really think that it is chic to run around looking like 25-year-old hookers? Excuse me, I meant to say cheap hookers. Some of their faces have been pulled back so far that you would think that they would have to fart in order to part their collagen-injected lips wide enough to gulp down their champagne.
Among the other usual suspects present at today’s shows is the wide array of fur coats. Mink, chinchilla, fox and beaver skins dressed the back of elegant women, real fur of course. And then, there was also a fake wolf worn by one of the attendees.
And finally, no fashion week would ever be complete without certain usual suspects of green-eyed monsters.
Case in point, tonight Fashion Windows’ Mari Davis learned that her international fan club is growing.
As she walked into the Maurizio Galante show, the wearer of the fake wolf fur coat along with her team, as if on cue, all turned to watch the Editor-in-Chief of FashionWindows take her assigned seat.
And then the pink tornadoes went to work. I thought that I would need to have the marines fly in some iceberg chunks in order to cool their heels!
Tomorrow is another full day and it promises to be even more eventful.
