Martin Grant Does True Glamour
By: Marcellous Jones
PARIS, Nov 3, 2004/ FW/ --- If true glamour is in any way linked to sexual pleasure, then Australian designer Martin Grant’s Spring/Summer 2005 collection must be declared as orgasmic on the highest imaginable levels.
Grant began the show with his “Snow White” dress in rose circle cotton veil and gathered cap-sleeves. It is the quintessential breath of elegance that this season seemed to desperately need. With a creation such as this, it would be easy for a lesser skilled designer to drop the ball later in the collection. However, the Australian proved to be far too clever and creative to ever allow that to happen.
His pink canvas trench coat with ¾ sleeves and cinched waist is so sexy and elegant that it could easily pass for a dress. His white smocked dress has spaghetti straps and is in white linen and pin stripes. Lovely is the only word that can describe it.
The black skirt-jacket ensemble is divine. The Claudine jacket has an A-line to it, “Peter Pan” collar and ¾ length sleeves. The Alice skirt is in linen and is pinned striped.
The silhouettes created by the Australian style genius are even more divine once set in motion through space and in time. His tailleur with semi-puffy sleeves that fall just below the elbow, his detailed black coat and his leather top which moulds itself onto the body like a stocking are all testaments to this.
His bronze trench coat with flap pockets and trumpet cuff sleeves will blend most effortless with the many other styles that we’ve seen during this fashion season.
So much stand out in this collection that it would be unfair to not continue. Grant’s silk swing back dress would bring joy to any woman who takes pride in being a woman! His princess dress in a silvery yellow lurex is on an equal footing with the swing dress, just as is the pleated high waist egg shell lurex dress and white satin linen painter’s coat with gathered cuff sleeves and buckled belt.
Grant’s tulip dress instantly transported me into early June where I envisioned myself having garden parties attended by women all wearing this beautiful creation. It brings forth chills to the soul!
With such divine genius incarnated in this orgasmic collection, all eyes from the packed hall where the collection was held were all gleaming with great anticipation of the last look to take to the runway. Once again, the man from downunder did not disappoint his guests. He sent out his siren dress and blew us all away with its refinement. The swing-back marvel has a fish tail and is in white satinesque linen and has shoe string straps.
Without a doubt, Martin Grant’s true glamour style is all-conquering and according to some, is just what Paris needs in order to re-establish itself not as only as the world’s leading fashion capital, but as its undisputed champion of glamour, elegance and refinement.
