DALLAS, May 2, 2004/ FW/ --- It’s still two months away, but the Paris Menswear Show Spring 2005 season slated from July 2 – 5, 2004 is heating up with the highly anticipated debut of Ozwald Boateng at Givenchy Homme.
Boateng who came on board Givenchy in December 2003 had the fashion flock wondering last January during the menswear season if he would take care of both womenswear and menswear side of Givenchy right after Julien Macdonald announced that Fall 2004 would be his last season with the venerable Paris fashion house.
Again, last January, after the runway presentation of his eponymous label, the designer gave FW an enigmatic smile when asked of that possibility.
With Givenchy in flux this current season (it has cancelled its Haute Couture Fall 2004 show), Ozwald Boateng’s debut collection for Givenchy Homme is a must see for the fashionista set.
Other developments in the Paris menswear scene: Xavier Delcour, Stéphane Plassier, Moritz Rogosky and Paul Smith had been elected as full or associate members of the Chambre Syndicale De La Mode Masculine. These four designers had been showing in Paris on the official calendar for the past several seasons.
Last March, the Chambre Syndicale De La Mode Masculine also elected its executive board.
Simon Burstein (Sonia Rykiel), Mark Lee (Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche), Donald Potard (Jean Paul Gaultier), Sidney Toledano (Christian Dior) and Stéphane Wargnier (Hermès) had been named its members.
This new executive board elected for the second time Simon Burstein as president and Stéphane Wargnier as vice-president.
