PARIS, Jan 26, 2006/ FW/ ---- On the eve of the Paris Menswear Show Fall 2006 season, whether it was by design or just a coincidence, Newsweek’s cover for this week’s issue headline says, ‘The Boy Crisis – At every level of education, they’re falling behind. What to do?’

And though the cover was more than thought provoking, thank goodness that the current menswear season both in Milan and Paris are not in 'crisis' in any way, shape or form.

With menswear designers in Milan defining elegance for the 21st century in their own vision, the record number of designers showing in Paris is also a sign that menswear is alive and well.

Wasn’t it only three years ago when fashion pundits were lamenting the state of menswear, saying that it was lacking in innovations and way behind sales compared to womenswear?

That has changed. The menswear market is growing and more designers are throwing their hat on the genre.

Going back to Newsweek’s ‘The Boy Crisis,’ the article is almost a treatise, discussing in depth the problems of male children who are in general falling behind their female counterpart in their education.

And though the article ends in an optimistic note, one question remains to be asked. Maybe boys are late bloomers and they will make up for their ‘slacking’ after they reach a certain age.

After all, if you look at the menswear industry, it is now more than making up for being ‘behind’ in development compared to womenswear.
