Gieves Menswear Spring 2007: Street Style Using Traditional English Tailoring Techniques
Paris Menswear Show Spring 2007
By Mari Davis
PARIS, Jul 4, 2006/ FW/ --- Launched in 2003 by world renowned tailors and holder of royal warrants Gieves & Hawks, Gieves presents a contemporary urban vision of English style.
And with Creative Director Joe Casely-Hayford, known for his functional street style clothing and was actually trained at Savile Row, Gieves has become a directional fashion collection that is luxurious and modern with the elegance of Savile Row tailoring.
Presenting its Spring / Summer 2007 collection at the Polish Embassy in Paris yesterday, Joe Casely-Hayford proposed slim trousers with a relaxed fit, cardigan twin sets, V-neck pullovers, belted jackets, double breasted Mackintosh, trench coats with detachable collars and snug fitting suit jackets that are linear.
In short, the 42 exits presented are meant for the young gentlemen of today who are confident and sophisticated. Aware of fashion trends, they are hip and cool, but like the traditional tailoring techniques of Savile Row, hence they look to Gieves for a fashion interpretation of classic English tailoring.
The collection did not break new grounds in fashion. Its beauty lies in the masterful tailoring techniques employed by Hayford. And like its older sibling, bespoke tailor Gieves & Hawkes, everything is understated and everything is in the details and innovative fabrics that were used.
