DALLAS, Nov 16, 2006/ FW/ --- Lebanese designer Elie Saab was elected as a Correspondent Member by the board of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture last November 10, the Fédération Française de la Couture announced today.
Elie Saab joins Giorgio Armani and Valentino of the very short and exclusive list of Correspondent Members.
On the same announcement, it was also mentioned that Boudicca, Cathy Pill, Gérald Watelet, Gustavo Lins, Lefranc.Ferrant and Nicolas Le Cauchois have been reconfirmed as invited members.
They are joining Adam Jones, Anne Valérie Hash, Carven, Christophe Josse, Eymeric François, Felipe Oliveira Baptista, Maison Martin Margiela, Marc Le Bihan, Maurizio Galante, On Aura Tout Vu, Ralph Rucci and Richard René among the list of invited members.
So, for Spring 2007 season, slated from Jan 22 to 25, 2007, invited members have been raised to 18.
Fashion insiders see Elie Saab’s election as a correspondent member as a triumph for the Lebanese designer. Known for its very stringent rules, the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture does not bestow the honor lightly.
Last July, on the eve of the Fall 2006 season, Le Figaro reported that Elie Saab has the biggest haute couture business in the world, with 800 couture pieces sold during the Spring 2006 season alone.
In a business where couture houses see a dwindling in their list of clients, Elie Saab bucks the trend and continues to expand his client list. Though unexpected, it is not surprising at all. Elie Saab is a favorite among the Middle Eastern royalty and Hollywood.
