Romeo Gigli: The Start Of A New Era at Gigli
By: Randal Jacobs
MILAN, Mar 10, 2005/ FW/ ---- Everyone remembers Romeo Gigli in their mother’s closet and we all are glad that the label is coming back in a fierce way. Designer Anna Ciummo is debuting with this autumn-winter collection.
Inspired by the Parisian 30s, the Gigli woman is sentimental, introspective, but aware of herself and her sophisticated style mimics her inner thoughts. The presentation began with a photo shoot going on as well as static models on podiums.
Clothes were lined along the wall in a very tasteful display with wild flowers all over. With the collection also being heavily influenced from the famous artist, Klimt, the set as well as the models looked like they just walked out of an oil painting.
The vibrant colours of the collection were great. There were rich browns and tans styled with orange and purple tights. Coats cut in thick ottoman ribbing of wool and warm shawls in jacquard wool contrasted splendidly with the prints and blending of colours.
Long ankle length skirts were of convention. Soft silks emerged throughout the collection along with other unforgetful fabrics such as velvet, wool, georgette and Crepon.
Empire waistlines hide this woman’s sensuality. Clokes and capes were seen in lavender and other fairytale dreamy colours. Belted gowns of chocolate were light and fem. With other touches of black and port, coats as well as little dresses were regal.
The collection is a modern interpretation of the true lady with a revival of a Poiret’s woman.
