MILAN, Jan 21, 2004/ FW/ --- In a room filled with smells of incense, Romeo Gigli interpreted Shakespeare and made the dream world come to life.

His conceptual rituals of fashion are sometimes misunderstood and not fully appreciated, as he remains faithful to his ideas of research and translation.

The autumn winter 2004/05 collection that Gigli offers is multi lingual and multi ethnical, just like fairytales.

Actors, musicians and dancers stood on raised circular platforms, providing contemporary theatre and a visual spectacle for press and buyers alike, resulting in a few perplexed looks, but most remained enthusiastic and grateful for the originality and break in catwalk monotony.

Gigli’s dream world wears deep reds, blues, off whites and darks. Printing is the main feature and ‘fragile’ the repetition.

Jackets are accessorised with pockets at the back, making them more functional than ever, while pants are still held up with braces, giving an extra pinch of charm.

Pinstripes, ties and suits are contemporary. Word and scribble printing on pants and suits are mixed with striped shirts in this land of the make-believe, where fashion is simply a construction of the daily influences that surround us.

In the Gigli press notes, he states ‘The dark is so: magical, enticing, propitious to dreaming... and in the darkness desires dance, for they have a bewitched soul, all their own, that makes them become living poetry, visual music.’

Romeo’s dream comes to life in his fashion fusion of menswear for next winter.
