MILAN, Jun 26, 2003 /FW/ --- Set in a universal metropolis with multi-coloured icy poles as props
established the tone for a colorful, multi-cultural collection for Romeo Gigli Spring / Summer 2004.
Spaghetti grafitti over pinstriped suits, hand painted stripes down jackets and pants
sporting bohemian lightness through lace up shirts that are skinny and figure hugging in
childlike innocence are the main fare of the collection.
Then, the designer changed the pace, showing the spirit of Africa through floral designs
on tailored jackets and pants, plus the use of other explosive detail such as college badges.
Crinkle, crush and unironed fabric is used for wide pants suits designed for comfort,
but pants are also very slim line, and there is 80's influence through the use of shoulder
pads.
Leather western cowboy shirts with piping and braces holding up high waisted pants
recalling the 20's and 30's working class.
Eveningwear are shiny and satin with zips or buttons as closures and cuffs on jackets
that are left open as if they were shirts.
Footwear oscillates between sandals that tie around the ankle and shiney two tone pointed
evening shoes with side buckle and big round toed balloon shoes.
An urban creature fighting for freedom, colour and adventure, leaving behind the rules of
so called suitable matching on how to wear clothes, and instead choosing his own road in
his escape from convention.
