LOS ANGELES, Oct 19, 2007 / FW / --- Los Angles based designer Samora Olayan unveiled her 'Samora' Spring 2008 collection to a full house on Oct 18th at Smashbox Studios for her ninth consecutive season.
As Stage One filled up, it had become apparent that the tone of the week had changed and the paparazzi had dwindled leaving only several standing idly by, or photographing one of the many B-list performers filtering into the room who were clearly looking for some media time. Shortly thereafter, the house lights dimmed and the show began.
The Bellona theme Samora Spring 08 collection is meant to inspire thoughts of Roman goddess warriors; however this forty-three piece collection while displaying several Roman garb qualities, it exemplifies more of a Roman commoner look.
Additionally there is one very out of theme exit, a black satin on cream chiffon gown accented with black bow ties and RUCHING, which is a French style ruffle not commonly seen until the late nineteenth century in pretty coats and hat and does not say to this journalist ‘Roman goddess’ on any level.
Also included in the supposed Bellona theme 'Samora' collection are several flower print dresses with smocking and small cloth flower paiettes that leave only questions such as the relationship of this form of smocking and that depicted in pre-5th century Roman mythology as well as a knee length natural waist dress with one strap that seams to the dress at an angle directly in the center of the chest covering any would be cleavage, a common feminine trait normally referred to as pleasing but forever lost to this ENSEMBLE.
As this forty-three piece optical tragedy came to its end, this journalist was left wondering that if after eight previous consecutive seasons that maybe next season Samora Olayan will opt to follow her own theme.
