NEW YORK, Feb 8, 2005/ FW/ – ‘a time to be…’ be anything you wish, be feminine or simply be wonderful. The Sass & Bide collection for autumn winter 2005 is a nostalgic trip to the future.
‘This season, Sass & Bide continues to celebrate the nature of contradiction with a range that brings together a futuristic vision fused with nostalgia for the past….’ Says designer Heidi Middleton.
Along with Sarah Jane Clarke, these two Australian ladies in only three seasons here at New York fashion week have become known for their sexy fun looks that are filled with the sunshine they bring with them.
Yet while Australia may be the land of sunshine and golden soils, this was supposed to be a winter collection, and apart from a few knits and tweed jackets the collection lacked seasonal consistency.
However to their credit, the contradictory looks of feminine sensuality were well tailored and filled with interesting details.
Girly ruffles and frills are merged with mini dresses, cropped pants and bolero jackets in a delicious color palette of chocolate, ecru, canary yellow and black, worn by gothic ‘S&B’ tattooed models.
Velvet is the new denim and essential for the romantic core of the Sass & Bide wardrobe. Shoulders are important, winged and large, with military influence or flowing, leaving waistlines and the upper body to be accentuated via redimensioned hemlines on jackets, longer in the front and shorter in the back.
Highlights were definitely the knit trench and their use of lace and beading as vintage loveliness and futuristic desire comes together to create a light wardrobe of hope and sensitivity.
