DALLAS, Sep 20, 2005/ FW/ --- Whew! That’s a long title, but that’s exactly how one would feel upon seeing the Sass & Bide Spring 2006 show featuring hats that look like they came straight from Michael Crichton’s ‘The 13th Warrior’ and Mel Gibson’s ‘The Patriot.’
Add to that the 1920s inspired bonnets, then, you have a speakeasy in the mix. If that makes your head spin, the models were ‘tattooed’ with crosses on their chest, and so you start thinking of Spanish conquistadores.
With all these things going on, you almost miss the gorgeous clothes being shown. Handkerchief hemlines on flowing skirts with the bodice ending on a spaghetti strap, striped tank tops that can be worn anywhere during the hot summer months and the cute vest-inspired blouse with buttons and pockets would be great additions to a fashionista wardrobe.
Lingerie-inspired dresses and shorts-set that featured layered ruffles and lace, tight-fitting pants that are almost leggings and low-waist minis that flutter when you walk are eye-catching.
Mixing tailored looks with flowing silhouettes, Heidi Middleton and Sarah-Jane Clarke did a more than credible collection.
But that cannot be said about the styling unfortunately. Sometimes, the adage ‘Less is more’ rings very true and in this case, it applies.
