PARIS, Mar 6, 2005/ FW/ --- Getting his ready-to-wear act together, Stéphane Roland created a Fall/Winter 2005 collection for Jean Louis Scherrer that proves that he can make the transition from the Mount Olympus of haute couture into that of ready-to-wear.
It is true that some of his silhouettes have the overall look of his haute couture collections, yet the feel here today is all ready-to-wear.
He began the show with an ensemble composed of elephant pants with giant cuffs. Its plaid coat is trimmed with puffy fur balls. This colour scheme is repeated in a skirt which also has 2 tiers of fur puffs.
The high heels in this collection are metallic. There are also patent leather mini boots with big bows on the front.
His leather skirt ensemble has a short cropped jacket with a string of buttons running down the front. We see the bow embellishment theme repeated often on coats, jackets and dresses. The bows are all either satin or in velvet like the bow used in the belt on this ensemble.
A rare splash of colour comes on the paisley printed ensemble and its translucent top. Roland also created a dress in a teal paisley and a longer flowing dress in red paisley.
The designer also used pink in the collection. His pleated skirt in pink has a black overlay in lace. He also did a long pink leopard printed gown, which wraps from waist down and is finished off with medieval sleeves in crepe.
It wouldn’t be Scherrer without fur and there was lots of it. The fur’s presence among some of the light and airy fabrics helped place this collection in the real of fall winter.
The evening pieces began with an exciting bolero jacket and knickers ensemble in black velvet. That opened things up for the black velvet dress with embroidery and large black sash belt with bow. His tuxedo dress in black is a perfect choice for clients because it is directly inspired by those done in the Scherrer haute couture collection.
