PARIS, Jul 9, 2005/ FW/ --- L’amor runs through Jean-Louis Scherrer’s Haute Couture autumn winter 2005/06 wardrobe of seventies butterfly wing sleeves and bell bottom flattering swing trousers, polka dots and floral.
Perhaps on the high seas or simply a cruise on the Mediterranean, Scherrer designer Stéphane Rolland transforms naval influences into feminine suits and obsequious silhouettes. A white cashmere skirt has a buttoned flap and double-breasted frock jackets have large gold Admiral buttons.
The Scherrer ‘Love Boat’ recollects relics of 1970’s Hollywood hills mistresses like the ‘Eugenie’ dress in violet printed silk velvet with violet and moss green fox cape, or the Tuxedo and swing pants in gold lame red damask and embroided black velvet.
Yet Stéphane Rolland’s approach and luxurious sartorial style intellect lies in the fact that he transforms an inspired collection into the contemporary where Bermudas are made of wool and short jackets pinch at the waist.
Victorian volume and cut also plays a role in this strictly Ladies only wardrobe, like a long dress in flesh organza and embroided black tulle that depicts cameo heads and paisley.
Wrists and collars are often ruffled and sleeves puffed, while the ‘Empire’ dress plays and important role, whether in embroided and crushed black tulle or in white woolen crepe and black fox.
Stéphane Rolland reserves the Bridal dress of black and gold delight with new born angel to leave his clientele whispering ‘j’adore’ at the end before running backstage to make an appointment for a fitting.
