Jean-Louis Scherrer PARIS, Jan 27, 2004/ FW/ --- Stéphane Rolland signed a Spring-Summer 2005 collection replete with structure and cool femininity for the haute couture house, Jean Louis Scherrer.

To the surprise of many, Roland began the collection by sending out the prototype toils of several of pieces his collection. It was a ploy designed to show to those in attendance the basics of how couture garments begin. Then the real show began.

His first suit was composed of a jacket with dickey and a pagoda skirt in black cotton tweed and white cotton. Another suit was composed of a tulip skirt in oatmeal. Both had a very strict elegance to them most typical of the Scherrer look.

Later in the show after a further display of elegant suits and ensembles, Roland sent to the runway a coatdress in ivory and worn with an ivory, satin crepe blouse. From this silhouette with its strict sex appeal, the collection became very interesting.

Roland’s first tuxedo was composed of a caftan jacket and high-waist pants in embroidered ivory damask for a new take on the classic. A second tuxedo composed of an opened back jacket and white pants in ivory grain then followed. They are most excellent when seeing them in motion on a svelte body.

An ensemble composed of an embroidered white satin and leather caftan had the austere elegance that attracted in years past like Marlene Dietrich or today’s Glenn Close. The dress itself was composed in black cloth crepe and white cotton.

The spencer cloak ensemble with high-waist skirt in ivory and gold damask drew applause. It was a part of an ensemble that also featured an ivory duchess satin waist and white cotton blouse with dickey.

A moment of high tension came in the form of Rolands’s daring back-less dress in coral and embroidered black moss crepe. The back fell dangerously low into the curve of the back.

Roland’s long dress in embroidered olive green and double satin crepe was exceptional in this beautifully structured collection, yet his long dress in embroidered gold and white double satin crepe was even more exceptional.
