PARIS, Oct 10, 2004/ FW/ --- Designer Stephane Rolland is re-visiting designs that have been done before, but now in the old tradition of Haute Couture style with a fresh optimistic view.
Though it was not very creative to duplicate collections of the past, there is craftsmanship in doing it well, and that was Stephane Rolland did.
Creating direct replicas and workmanship in the spirit of Jean Louis Scherrer, Rolland put front and center what made the House famous.
For a mature client, there were flare leg suits and cotton tweed suits. Under-layers included silk blouses with bows and camisole tops.
The tweed suits were a clash of Jackie O’s first lady look with a Mary Tyler Moore hook. Respectable hem lines were a must with dated prints on shirts and two piece suits.
The masculine look took over by showing piped shoulders on male blazers and long men’s trousers with cuffs. Tuxedo inspired black grain de poudre and satin suits made an impact on the women’s body.
These sleeveless tuxedoes were trimmed in sequins giving a contemporary flare. Polka dots in navy and red with a white base looked timeless on synch waste gowns with open front and side splits.
Beautiful diamond studded broaches were sporadically placed on gowns and lapels. A psychedelic rainbow jump suit flowed down the catwalk with grace as well trench coat dresses in white with black trim.
The show concluded by showing long cruise dresses in satin reminiscent of regal movie stars. Twirling pleats and black point lace were show-stopping details on floor length gowns.
Staying close to the roots of Scherrer, Stephane Rolland presented a sensible collection for the eternally feminine woman.
