SANDTON, SOUTH AFRICA, Jul 28, 2006/ FW/ --- As most of us know, ‘Fashion Week’ is one of the most hectic times on our fashion calendars, attending in South Africa was no different.
Once I got myself in place, attended the different shows, determined my reviews, here is the best on the Women’s Collections, Spring Summer 2006/07 from Sanlam SA Fashion Week:
Colleen Eitzen - South Africa’s Answer to Calvin Klein
The Eitzen Spring/Summer 2006/07 color palette was full on whites, crèmes, khaki, light green and pink accents. Earthy, sensuality, seduction and playful are terms that I will apply to her Collection with a true focus on her girly side.
JJ Schoeman: Feminine, Sensual Dresses
The Schoeman Spring/Summer 2006/07 Collection was like watching an early Audrey Hepburn in the movie “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”. His dresses were mostly in black satin, the use of black lace, a black and white color palette, fitted dresses with playfully sleeve treatments that made his designs similar to the likes of Oscar de la Renta and Vera Wang.
Sun Goddess: The Most Anticipated Show
The Sun Goddess Collection was without a doubt the most anticipated Collection at Sanlam SA Fashion Week. The dramatic voice opening of the chorus took me back to the trumpet sounds in the operatic themes of Handel’s Messiah as the models showed The Collection. The luxurious gowns were in rich, imposing colors such as deep scarlet, dazzling purple, royal blue and rich gold.
Aziza – New Afro-chic Luxury Label
“Afro-Gucci is the buzz phrase that we are using for the Spring/Summer 2006/07 Aziza label”, says, Dion Chang, Programme Director, Sanlam SA Fashion Week when I interviewed him about the Aziza Collection.
South Africa’s Womens 2006/07 Collections can so easily fit into the streets of Rodeo Drive, Los Angeles, 5th Avenue New York and on Bond Street, London. The talent is there - maybe I’ll see South Africa’s designs on those streets one day – it’s a wrap!
