During and after the season, editors and fashion pundits write their reviews, give their opinions and discuss trends seen on the catwalk, which in turn give the public a sneak peek on the global fashion direction.

Since I’m reflecting on the global views as it relates to fashion opinions, I could not but ask Lucilla Booyzen, Director of Sanlam SA Fashion Week, for her personal opinion on the historical 10th anniversary of SSAFW event in South Africa’s fashion calendar.

Lucilla Booyzen stated, “that for the 10th year, I think that it was a great celebration of fashion in South Africa, not necessarily fashion in South Africa, but the business of fashion in South Africa. Let’s not forget, that fashion is just a moment in time.”

In my opinion, Lucilla Booyzen is to South Africa what Fern Mallis, Executive Director, 7th on Sixth/IMG is to New York’s Fashion Week, Olympus Fashion Week.

As the U.S. Fashion Correspondent to Sanlam SA Fashion Week, it was my joy and pride to see how well South Africa’s fashion event compared to Los Angeles Fashion Week (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios ) where I am based, just outside of Los Angeles, California.

Sanlam SA Fashion Week had all the aspects of a world-class fashion event and it is time for the rest of the world to get to know more of the excellence that South Africa’s fashion industry has to offer.
