Mar 16, 2002/ FWD/ --- The Sonia Rykiel label has reemerged on the fashion scene stronger
than ever these past few seasons.
Her modish knits and geometric forms and lines appeal to everyone from the Saint Germain
intellectuals to the cool hipsters who frequent Colette. Her collection shown Tuesday proved
that the resurgence of this classic French label will continue.
Mostly black, the collection was about luxury, comfort and ease. Except for a few deep
necklines and a couple of flirty dresses, Rykiel's woman is well swathed this season --
Sonia has never been one to show too much skin anyway.
But the slim lines and hugging wrap jackets and sweaters in this collection made for a
more mysterious sex appeal.
Frills and flowers were dotted throughout the collection, embellishing a shoulder or a tied
around the waist.
A series of printed chiffon dresses over matching pants in various colors of the famous
Rykiel rainbow, as well as some Kermit-green knit ensembles, added splashes of color to
the predominantly dark line-up.
The highlight of the show was the finale, though, as the girls came out onto the runway
wearing off-the-shoulder knit sweaters, which were identically cut but in every Sonia shade.
Topped off with floppy hats, the look was just what everyone has come to know as Sonia Rykiel.
