PARIS, Jan 29, 2002/ FWD/ --- One of the French labels currently enjoying a powerful resurgence
in its men’s fashion business is Rykiel Homme.
The collection the house showed Sunday in a grungy old theater in Clichy underlined all the
label’s current strengths -- gentlemanly cutting, sense of humor and a carefree Left Bank spirit.
Take the Rykiel Homme trompe-l’oeil pullovers, which came replete with faux scarves, suspenders
and ties, without looking foolish.
The line’s silhouette continues to be forgiving, while its fabrics and finish maintain the
label’s classy yet happily quirky reputation.
The family-owned Rykiel business is located in St. German, the former student and intellectual
neighborhood undergoing rapid change.
Something of the area’s memory appeared in the retro grandfather suits with workerist berets,
sort of a posh proletarian chic.
The finale was one of the season’s best.
A dozen models in blue and white horizontal stripe tops trooped out, before one invited Sonia
onto the catwalk to take her bow.
Her family, sitting front-row, led the noisy applause.
