Sonia Rykiel Fall 2004
Paris Menswear Show Fall 2004
Rykiel Homme: Modern Cosmopolianites
By Michelle Taylor
PARIS, Jan 24, 2004/ FW/ ---Sonia Rykiel sat front row alongside other well-known fashion names at her show this afternoon in Paris.
Continuing the revamp in style of the historical maison, her men are modern cosmopolianites that spend their time between elite ski slopes and suave urban centres.
Sexy and contemporary, slim line trousers and tailored jackets contour the clean-cut male silhouette.
Active by day in fluffy moon boots for the snow with the perfect look to impress any ski bunny zipping down the slopes, as they dress in winter parka’s with fur collars that are often removable, heavy knitwear and slim ski pants that zip at the side.
Yet for an extra sensitive look there is the choice of snowmen, mini skiers and polar bear designs that appear on knitwear.
The multi coloured stripe, which has become synonymous of the Rykiel name, comes in a simple but effective thick red and white oblong version for sweaters and scarves, which are highlighted under black down jackets and parkas.
Turtleneck sweaters are a sportive alternative to the traditional shirt and fit perfectly under any two or three buttoned suit jacket, able to live in symbiosis with the slimming black romantic velvet jacket as well.
Her fabric choice varies from wool, cashmere, leather, cotton, fur and technical fabrics, as does her colour palette, which comes in bright bursts accentuated all the more by the more traditional greys, blacks and khaki.
Casual, yet refined, the Rykiel man is a blend of coolness and luxury.
The final exit, a gold glitzy tuxedo will probably not hit too many stores, but the eccentric tends to stick in people’s minds.
Slope hopping or city moving, she gives a range of outfits that are palatable for more than one occasion.
