PARIS, Jan 28, 2005/ FW/ --- Morphing rock & roll with the traditional school uniform,
Rykiel Homme’s Fall 2005 collection embodies the spirit of the young – a certain degree of rebelliousness while learning to live within the establishment thus creating change and forward momentum along the way.
The school blazer became black & gray checks. Worn with a vest, striped shirt and a tie, together with a stovepipe pants, the schoolboy turned into a groovy rock star.
Continuing on that line, she then sent slim fitting suits that will be at home in the campus and on the stage, something The Hives will wear in one of their concerts.
That was just the start of the innovations. The cardigan sweater became a fashion statement when worn with a cravat while the varsity jacket became a down-filled outerwear.
It was chic. It was rock & roll. And it is bound to be the youth’s new ‘uniform’ come fall.
With Sonia Rykiel sitting front row, as she had historically done and surrounded by the hard hitting important fashion editors like Suzy Menkes of IHT and Richard Buckley of Vogue Homme, the show ended when the last model wearing a beaded jacket and low-waist pants walked up to her and held out his hand.
Taking the offered hand, Sonia Rykiel met all the models halfway on the runway. Together, they took their collective bows, as the audience gave everyone a deafening applause for a winning collection.
