Tomer Tomer NEW YORK, Feb 5, 2005/ FW/ --- Texas might be better known for oil and cattle than fashion, but Texas designers continue to be recognized in the business, the latest being Tomer Gendler (photo at left) who won the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award for menswear last month here in New York.

Designing under his own name, Austin, TX-based Tomer signed his third collection in a presentation at the Polish Embassy today, presenting a very contemporary and sartorial collection featuring some innovative approach to men’s dressing.

Rounded shoulders with comfortable-fitting suits and jackets, Tomer wants his gents to look urbane and citified, yet still be at home in conservative settings like Austin, the capital of Texas and home to the state senate.

Translated, it also means that the young interns inside the beltway in Washington D.C. would look modish yet still project a seriousness about their jobs, as what is needed if you are working for high-powered positions in politics or business.

And that is just one of Tomer’s strengths; attention to details is another one. Take the basic turtleneck sweater for example. The FGI rising star winner added chrome snaps on the bodice giving it a very avant-garde look, making wearing a turtleneck a fashion statement instead of boring.

Opting for hidden plackets for basic shirts, Tomer gave it a very finished look. Worn with snug fitting vests with a suit jacket or a trench coat, it became a ‘go-anywhere, go anytime’ mode of dressing that can take a gentleman from business meetings to a dinner in town.

And that is Tomer’s greatest strength, the versatility of his garments that makes any man, whether they like dressing up or not, look chic and stylish. He might be young in age, but Tomer definitely has his fingers on the pulse of his target market.

With Tom Ford, the greatest fashion export from Texas retired from the business, another designer from the Lone Star state is on the rise and his name is Tomer.
