DALLAS, Aug 19, 2005/ FW/ --- Austin, Texas-based designer Tomer caught the eye of the fashionistas last January when he won the Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Award. And on Friday, September 9, 2005 at the UPS Hub during Olympus Fashion Week, he will debut at the tents in Bryant Park.

A graduate of the University of Texas Austin, the 26-year old designer is a wonderfully fresh addition to the menswear scene.

Believing that American men see fashion as part of their lives and that they want to be treated as an entirely different group, not just a complement to women’s fashion, Tomer has a continuous quest to design men’s clothing that make men feel special and unique, yet they are comfortable wearing the clothes.

“Men generally avoid trends,” says Tomer. “They are also individualists. They want to wear clothes that separate them from other men. To them, it’s not about big labels. It’s about being at ease with what they are wearing,” he added.

And that is why his Spring 2006 collection that will be shown at the UPS Hub during the New York season features only the finest European fabrics in shades of gray, with accents of blue, olive and black.

The collection is sophisticated and modern in design, integrating sartorial detailing with a hint of Japanese minimalism to create a contemporary expression of classically tailored men’s wear.

“Before, men just dress for their jobs, but that has changed. Men are more aware about fashion nowadays,” commented Tomer. And he is not saying that just out of the blue. What the Texas-native says is backed up by statistics.

In a survey released last year by the NPD Group, a marketing information company, men doing their own shopping have risen to 70% in 2002, up 5% from the year before, and a dramatic 22% increase from 1998 when only 48% of American men shopped for themselves!

So, what does Tomer see as the next directional change for men’s fashion?

“The blazer!” he said enthusiastically. “A nice blazer that will go with everything, from dress pants to denim.”

“There will be variations in pant legs and the ankle, too,” he added, refuting comments by some fashion pundits that there are only a finite number of ways you can cut a pair of pants.

His innovative approach to men’s dressing and a never-ending desire to create new designs caught the eyes of the ‘UPS Delivers Fashion’s Future’ judges and Tomer was chosen to be one of the 10 young designers to be awarded a fashion grant by the company.

His excitement of being chosen by UPS only rivals the exhilaration he felt when he won the FGI Rising Star Award.

When asked what is the connection between UPS and fashion, Tomer said without hesitation, “The fashion business is constantly dependent on timely deliveries. There are many options of course, but some stand out as better alternatives. Having fabric shipped on time is crucial, having the collection in the showroom shipped on time from Italy is crucial; all these things are timed, and with a company like UPS it's possible.”

“So, truly, UPS teaming up with 7th on Sixth makes perfect sense!” Tomer ended logically.
