NEW YORK, Feb 4, 2007 / FW --- It is always a pleasure seeing Maticevski’s creations as the Sydney-based designer continue combine modern aesthetics with classical tailoring.
For Fall 2007, Maticevski played on volume and texture as he sent billowy frocks and coats that were down-filled yet they did not overwhelm. In fact, the fluid quality was maintained.
Take the sorbet floor-length coat and sorbet green skirt for example. Shown together as one ensemble, it was cinched at the waist with a thin belt, thus showing off the waist and in turn also emphasized the female figure.
This piece is not for the faint of heart though. For the more restraint fashionistas, Maticevski created square neck jumpers and empire minis, using sheering to create volume and tone-on-tone material to highlight texture.
Showing both fluid and architectural pieces, Maticevski once again demonstrated his mastery of tailoring techniques, which is not surprising actually. After all, he trained under Donna Karan here in New York and with Cerruti in Milan.
Maticevski who is already a star in his hometown Sydney is becoming one of the bright stars among the emerging designers showing at the tents. With his move to New York, Sydney lost one of its dazzling talents. And, it is truly New York’s gain!
