Paris, Jul 9, 2002/ FW/ --- In the Imperial suite of the Hotel Intercontinental, the House
of Torrente opened Paris couture week beneath magnificent frescos and gold chandeliers
dripping crystal tears.
Ironically, it was the same location in which Yves Saint Laurent once showed, and the very
spot he presented his farewell collection just one year ago.
Before a packed house on Monday, the esprit of traditional haute couture came to life.
The show was organized around the theme of beautiful modern women returning from various
trips abroad, say to Africa or Russia, attracted by the infinite allure of Paris.
Be that as it may, the collection was exquisite, glittering just like Paris by night, and
proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that beauty and elegance are timeless.
So long as little girls dream of growing up to become princesses, there will always be
room for that magical world of high fashion.
And so long as their are gala charity balls, or glittering Embassy receptions, Rosette
Torrente-Mett will have an audience for her couture.
The collection began with a suit in chocolate jersey, embroidered with leather sequins and
puffed sleeves in coordinating sable.
Along the way, there were such scintillating creations as a suit sewn of midnight blue lace,
and embroidered with leather flowers, a long dress in patchwork black velvet trimmed in
Chantilly lace, and an evening gown of ruby organza, highlighted with pleated fans and waves.
The use of Scandinavian mink was innovative, as in a honey colored sweater, and elegant when
finding its way on to the trim of collars and sleeves.
The show came to a wonderful climax as Marie-Agnès Gillot, the principal dancer of the Ballet
of the Paris Opera, floated down the runway completely 'on point' to Ave Maria accompanied
by harp.
The graceful Wedding Dress was trimmed in a white fur collar.
The applause was thunderous for this show, and it could well be applied to the larger
picture of Parisian couture, which is very much alive and flourishing.
