NEW YORK, Feb 5, 2007 / FW --- It is exactly three years ago today when FashionWindows first covered Venexiana when Kati Stern showed her ‘Supporting Venetian Art’ collection.
Six catwalk shows later, Kati Stern, while keeping her signature style of medieval punk rock, has converged wearability and artistry into her collections, hence demonstrating her growth and maturity as a designer.
Early on, ladies who would wear Venexiana should have a particular for clothing. Neither uptown nor downtown, Kati Stern had a cult following for her medieval Venice-inspired creations. A little bit on the ‘heavy side’ in terms of texture and volume, a woman should have a certain stature to carry the clothes with aplomb.
Yet, every season, Kati Stern continues to capture the imagination of the fashionistas as she steadily and slowly ‘lightens up’, moving towards chiffon and using less and less velvet, which in turn brings us to Fall 2007 that in a lot of ways is her best collection yet shown at Bryant Park.
Well coordinated, coherent and a wonderful mixture of day dresses, evening gowns and fur coats, Kati Stern revisited the 1930s and infused her trademark style. The result, a wonderful concoction of very wearable and commercially viable clothing that is still truly Venexiana!
Drop down waist chiffon dresses, empire minis, bias cut skirts were paired with black hose or leggings hence mixing old world charm with modern day sophistication. The gowns, though they still have some ways to go before being red carpet worthy are definitely Oscar week party material!
Still, it is the day dresses like the empire dusty rose with puff sleeves in chiffon, the snuff fitting brief jacket, Jodhpur style pants and mutton sleeve sweaters that would find their way into the wardrobe of hallway fashionistas this fall.
It will not even be surprising if the wardrobe of college coeds also became filled with Venexiana!
