PARIS, Jul 20, 2004/ FW/ --- Singapore designer Jonathan Seow has brought his creative eye to the runways of Paris for Spring Summer 2005.
Through his label Woods & Woods, Seow seeks to make subtle, yet remarkable innovations in basic menswear and the way in which clothes are worn. For example, the designer created a simple button down shirt, with a flat growing from one shoulder to the other and ending at the wrist of the left arm. It does have a certain affect on the eye. This piece is a must-have for he who seeks individuality from his wardrobe.
“The essence of the collection is built up by the careful selection of fabrics with an existed aura, the classical silhouettes, the tailoring of certain shapes, the swirling pin-tucks (that reminds one of a score sheet), and how the way a piece of garment being layered on top of another-transforming into another yet, interesting composition”, says Seow. “It is these observation & studies that explore my very interest in ideas and the links between ideas; the relationship between concrete and the abstract, and frequently exasperating the latent conflicts between objects, trying to desecrate the relationship between the eye, the hand and mind.”
Seow works in this collection with wool, cotton, shirtings, leather, polyester, duchesse satin, etc. His colors include black, white, neutrals, pinstripes and different shades of both blue and grey.
As for the silhouettes one may expect lean, skinny jeans, tailored-pants and pants gathered with drawstring. The pants in the collection are most distinguishable thanks to the myriad of strings which pull in everyway, creating wild and unexpected structures in the pant.
His jackets have classic shapes and sporty patched-works. The bomber jackets are sleek.
One should also pay close attention Seow’s lapels. In the Woods & Woods collection, his lapels are just one of the elements that stand out most. On his deep V-neck cardigan, they even appear to be fit for a tuxedo. On his jackets and blazers, they are doubled and create an element of extra style.
