Fingers Crossed F15 (19)NEW YORK, Feb 24, 2015/ — New York Men’s day kicked off New York Fashion Week at Industria Superstudio, Wednesday Febuary 11th, and among the designers was Ryu Hayama, showcasing his Fingers Crossed Fall/Winter 2015 collection.

Diving into the abyssopelagic zone of the deep deep sea for inspiration, Hayama’s collection took the crowd where no seaman had gone before…

Designer Ryu Hayama’s third presentation is his most intimate expression of menswear yet. Inspired by the still sound, fragile life forms and hypnotic undercurrents of the deep blue sea.

At the heart of Hayama’s exploration of a new working wardrobe is the mariner. Hayama updates the classic archetype of the seamen with a modern bohemian spirit.

New precious Japanese fabrics for shirting, blazers, and everyday outerwear are compact and lighter for a relaxed, clean daywear look.

Elsewhere, Hayama incorporates butter-soft lambskin and ultra-fine wool cashmere to create softly tailored bomber jackets, trousers, and statement topcoats, while elevating sweatshirts and tees with unexpected tension in fabric.

In sum, an approachable, elegant collection of surprising depth rich in detail, ranging from flat seams on t-shirts and cord locks on outerwear for a performance edge, to slick leather shells with side zippers, custom oceanic prints, plush linings in jackets, and Hayama’s signature 3D seams on necks and sleeves.

Presented by Cadillac, and with a chance to ride away in one decorated in their inspirational designs, designers were entered into the Cadillac Car Wrap contest to which three would win. Ryu Hayama was one of the three designers, who showed at New York Men’s Day, to win a week with his customized design on a Cadillac!
