DALLAS, Apr 27, 2007/ FW/ --- When Giorgio Armani tackles romance, he goes all the way. It started with his eponymous line and continued through Emporio Armani, this time with Gen Y in his mind.
In a collection with surprisingly very few trousers, Emporio Armani visualizes young women wearing cute mini dresses rolled at the hem, room skorts with side pockets and figure enhancing cocktail dresses.
Brief suit jackets were cut for an empire waist, emphasized with a wide belt. Actually, belts were a binding element (no pun intended) in the collection, as it was shown in different permutations – obi-wide, thin or as a chain.
Coats were generously cut proposed as collarless and double-breasted, or with a trapeze silhouette and extra wide collars. Sometimes, they were trimmed with fur at the wrists and collars. But, the one that stood out was the knitted sweater coatdress with a shawl collar and one button, knitted in panels.
Blouses were shells or brief and body hugging with puff sleeves. Usually paired with skorts or minis, and layered over with a shawl or coat, they actually look and feel comfy.
Still, it was with the cocktail dresses that this Emporio Armani collection made its mark. Proposed in black, pink, blue and green, they came strapless or with spaghetti straps or crisscross.
Sometimes, they were austere, with the sharp tailoring making the statement by itself. There were beaded ones too, or layered with big ruffles to create volume. Believe it or not, these would be great prom dresses. Too bad that most high schoolgirls cannot afford them. But, if their parents can, why not? They will be the belle of the ball, even make prom queen.
