Emporio Armani MILAN, Jan 16, 2007/ FW/ --- Like in the Burger King commercial that features a man singing ‘I am man, I am hungry and I am tired of chic food,’ to the tune of Helen Reddy’s ‘I Am Woman,’ the Emporio Armani Fall 2007 collection also proclaims the return of THE MAN and masculinity.

Perhaps, it is a natural progression of things. After all, the metrosexual craze had died down almost to a whisper. So, when two very dissimilar companies like Emporio Armani and Burger King announce the death of metrosexuality, it is easy to read it as a sign of the times.

So for Fall 2007, Giorgio Armani only have to look at his own archives, then sent suits with rounded shoulders slightly tapered at the waist. He then proposed trousers cut just right so that it shows the male form, but not loose nor constrictive.

Windbreakers with hoods were zipped at the front and double-breasted jackets showed Russian military uniform influences.

While the design maestro emphasized classic men’s dressing, he also proposed some futuristic looks via the use of high tech fabrics and thigh-high boots that are wrapped tight around the knees while loose at the calves.

The boots might make it to the set of the next installment of Star Troopers, but the shoes are nowhere near sci-fi. It is a just a futuristic vision of warrior boots that if you really look into history, were part of the uniform of the English Stuarts.

And since this is an Armani collection, multiple variants of the jacket – from the formal suits to the sportive bombers, even to the comfortable down-filled and quilted ski jackets.

It’s a serious collection meant to touch men from all walks of life beginning with the denizens of Wall Street, the young geeks of Silicon Valley who love to snowboard or ski to the hedonistic playboy who has somehow curb his tendency for excess.
