DALLAS, Apr 24, 2007/ FW/ --- Since the early 1900s, Authier has been synonymous with elegance and technology in skiwear.
Founded by John Authier in Biere, Switzerland in 1910, the brand has almost a hundred year history of innovation and groundbreaking designs.
Though the brand was well known among ski enthusiasts, it was not until the 1950s that Authier caught the attention of the whole world. An innovative ski called ‘Vampire’, made in ash wood and flexible throughout its entire length was launched in the market. These skis were used during the Cortina D’Ampezzo Olympic Games in 1956. The name ‘Vampire’ was inspired by the first jet airplane of the Swiss Air Force.
When the 1960s rolled around, Authier introduced the first plastic skis with double elasticity, an accomplishment that made the company the leading ski producer in Switzerland. Authier became synonymous with the highest prestige in the world of competitive skiing.
Forty years hence, the first ever ready-to-wear collection was launched by Authier in the 1990s. With Gustavo Sangiorgi in its creative helm, together with Marco Tonazzi and Erwin Stricker, the ‘Vampire/Authier’ collection was born. It was inspired by the 1950s Golden Age of skiing.
Also, to celebrate the company’s 80th anniversary, a new Vampire ski model was introduced.
In 2006, Authier partnered with the Aeffe Fashion Group to expand its foothold in fashion and luxury.
