DALLAS, Sep 4, 2006/ FW/ --- Established in 1924 by Harry Grosberg in Victoria Place in England, Belstaff began as a company offering waterproof garments.
Specializing in windproof, rainproof and weather-resistant garment during the 1930s, Belstaff became one of the pioneers in ‘active lifestyle’ apparels, offering garments for aviators, motorcycle enthusiasts and the military.
Belstaff was also one of the first to offer accessories for protective clothing – goggles, boots, helmets, gloves and bags.
Headquartered in England for 67 years, the English textile industry crisis of 1991 affected the company and it was forced to close its Stoke-on Trent factory. But, the supporters of Belstaff would not allow the brand to die. Under the creative helm of Franco Malenotti, the company continued its operations, though in a much reduced capacity.
In 1996, Malenotti founded the Clothing Company to help with the revival of Belstaff. The response was immediate and sales went up through the roof especially with the introduction of ‘Reacta’ and the relaunch of ‘Black Prince by Belstaff’. A shoes and bag division was also created.
In 2004, Belstaff International Ltd was taken over by the Clothing Company, the same year that the company celebrated its 80th anniversary. The Belstaff name is once again back on top.
