MILAN, Feb 19, 2007/ FW/ --- Ennio Capasa likes throwing a curved ball and giving his audience lots of surprises. When purple laser lights illuminated the catwalk, one almost expected a techno parade. Instead, it was a very pretty dress up C’N’C Costume National that girls in their teens and twenty-something will just love to wear!
Sharply tailored jackets with the sleeves rolled up and arm warmers worn as an accessory, it’s a young girl in a lady-like mood that rummaged through her parents’ wardrobe and found 1980s styled clothes.
Yes, the 1980s was very much present in the collection; but instead of the same old reinterpretations that we have been witnessing for at least two seasons from New York, Milan & Paris, Ennio Capasa pepped it up with neoprene, patent leather and luminous fabrics mixed with natural materials.
Multiple variants of coats and jackets just take your breath away. Cut traditionally, long or brief, they came quilted or adorned with zippers that were sewn straight or diagonal.
And on an innovative slant, Ennio Capasa added straps that hold them to the shoulders like rucksacks, perfect for teen-agers and college students who have a tendency to just drop their coats anywhere. For the twenty-somethings who likes to go to raves and clubs, this is a must-have item for fall.
Though it will already be very hard to choose among the suits and jackets on which one to get whey they hit the stores, the red quilted brief jacket divided into godets was the one that brought down the house.
Made of parachute fabric, it is dressy without being formal; it’s looks ‘adult’ without making you look like one.
Still, it’s the skirts and dresses that are destined to be favorites. Often asymmetrical, they were proposed as minis or knee-length. Cut in A-line or ovate, the silhouette is slim but not constricting and can be worn over pants or accessorized with leggings.
As usual, Ennio Capasa sent the best for last – a formal dress or gown, depending on how you define it was created out of black tulle; the skirt was mini, the bodice taut and the train was actually a long cape made from parachute fabric!
Now, the only question is, does one wear it for the prom or homecoming? Either way, it is fit to be worn by the queen!
