Enrico Coveri Fall 2006: Strikingly Chic and Colorful
Milan Womenswear Show (Milano Moda Donna) Fall 2006
By Mari Davis

Enrico Coveri MILAN, Feb 21, 2006/ FW/ --- That the 1980s was an inspiration for Enrico Coveri’s Fall 2006 collection was obvious the moment the controversial hit song ‘One Night In Bangkok’ (it was banned in Thailand) was played as background music. What followed was a dynamic collection that was strikingly chic and colorful.

The famed 1980s excess and sexiness were echoed in the rich colors that were the main palette of the collection – shocking pink, neon green, purple that also made their appearance in the bold graphical prints.

Though the bright colors were the ones that hit your eyes first, Enrico Coveri’s play with volume and texture cannot be denied too.

Knit coats were trimmed with fur, both at the collar and plackets. Long sleeved knit sweaters were treated with sequins on the front, covering the whole torso and leather trench coats were also mixed with fur.

The silhouettes remained slim, even with the layered ruffles and sheering of the skirts. Shoulders were soft while the waist was emphasized with wide belts and curve hugging dresses.

Trousers were pencil thin, presented in solid colors and animal prints and paired with knee high boots, giving a street wear feel, but stayed within the high fashion realm.

Coveri divided the collection into three sections: the ‘crazy zoo’ that featured animal prints; the ‘sexy chameleon’ an ironic description because how can one hide with the camouflage prints made of screaming shades of pink, green and black; and the ‘monster-fluid’ wherein the 1980s video game monster Ms. Pacman was hidden in the prints literally going with the flow.

With Coveri’s catwalk preview sandwiched between Marni and Emilio Pucci, any emerging designer in the Milan fashion scene will be hard-pressed to compete. Yet, Enrico Coveri held his own with this dynamic collection that will surely catch your eyes.

Another eye-catching revelation, Coveri launched his new perfume, MI 06, the anagram for ‘you are mine.’ Meant for both men and women, it is part of an entire beauty line for him and for her.

The MI 06 bottle is pink, shaped like a motorcycle handlebar grip. With a mantra, ‘Because perfume, like the handlebar of a motorcycle, is a sentimental jerk,’ and its street reference, the MI 06 is intended to capture the imagination of the youth market.
