Givenchy Menswear Spring 2008: Superbly Tailored As Always
Paris Menswear Show Spring 2008

Givenchy PARIS, Jun 28, 2007/ FW/ --- Opting for a presentation once again this season, Givenchy unveiled its Spring / Summer 2008 collection on clear mannequins that were displayed on a big round pedestal.

And though some fashionistas feel that using mannequins takes away from the collection, FashionWindows beg to differ simply. Yes, there is no way to replace the charm of a live model strutting on the runway, with editors and buyers seeing how the clothes move with the human body.

Still, a mannequin presentation has its own charm, because that is actually the way the merchandise is going to be displayed in stores.

Arguably, the dynamism and modernity that has always accompanied the Givenchy menswear collection since Ozwald Boateng took over the helm of the menswear side of the maison is missing with this static presentation. Boateng who has taken a ‘consulting’ position since last season was not present during the presentation. And somehow, his absence can be felt all around.

Though the superbly tailored suits and jackets, the leather blousons, the straight leg tuxedo pants are truly beautiful and will sell very well in the stores, the absence of a Creative Director is very apparent.

Because truth be known, the personality of the Creative Director for a maison is always infused in the collections. Hence, though the Givenchy menswear collection is as beautiful as ever, the charisma that has made it so, is missing. Call it ‘soul’ if you want, or any other word that defines the essence.
